This week the theme for “Laughter Lives” is funny things that happen at … I could not resist going back & pulling out a mamawism … I know some of y’all have read this but maybe someone who hasn’t will get a chuckle today.

This is a post I did a while back titled “Abby’s anyone?” it is about a trip I took my grandparents on years ago. I hope you enjoy.

It is the 2nd Tuesday of the month and that means my sorry butt doesn’t have to cook the Bentleys are invading PJ’s fishcamp in full force for dinner. As noted in an earlier post, the Bentley’s, are my dad’s side of my family. Every 2nd Tuesday of the month, we eat together. So in honor of 2nd Tuesday’s, I will be posting a mamawism on the nights we get together, until I run out of um, cause at some point I will run out & unfortunately, I cannot get anymore of them.

mamawism:

Way back in the day, I decided for some unknown reason, that it would be a good idea to take my mamaw & papaw to Myrtle Beach on a weekend getaway. Maybe it was because when I was little they use to take me, I don’t know what I was thinking, However, I am sure it began with good intentions. I had just found out I was pregnant with Anna so my mood was not of the most chipper variety. Anyway, we go to the beach, spend the weekend and are now on our way home. For any of you who can count, that would mean not only was I pregnant, I also had a 2 year old, my now ex and my grandparents in the car for way to freakin’ long an extended period of time. My goal was to simply drive home without having to stop for anything other than potty breaks, which I would have also avoided had it been humanly possible. About 45 minutes from home, mamaw declares she is hungry & it is time to pull over & eat. After some skillfull negotiation on my part, I did get her to agree to fast food instead of a nicer establishment (yes, I know I am a terrible person). Thus we stop at Arby’s … soon to be forever known as Abby’s …

after ordering our food & sitting down at a booth in a very crowded Arby’s the following conversation insued, much to the delight of every patron eating there that day:

mamaw: “this is good, Fred, do we have an Abby’s at home”?

papaw: (not a word)

me: “mamaw, it’s Arby’s, and yes we do have one at home”

mamaw: (getting louder) “Fred, do we have an Abby’s at home”?

papaw: (not a word)

me: (a tad louder) “mamaw, it’s Arby’s”

mamaw: (louder) “FRED! do we have an Abby’s at home”?

papaw: (still nothing)

me: (ok I was loud) “mamaw, it’s Arby’s … Arby’s Arby’s Arby’s, if you say Abby’s one more time I swear we are leaving”

mamaw: (looking me square in the eye) “Fred, do we have an Abby’s at home”?

me: (shoving food onto the tray & into the trash can while grabbing my 2 year old out of the high chair) “get in the car right now, we are going home”

mamaw: (now in the car riding home) “Fred, that was really good, do we have an Abby’s at home”?

me: (not one word)

moral of the story: she wins!

me.
