Happy Saturday to you! What a beautiful day in Carolina. My morning started early again today, but not so much to my dismay this week. You see, I had a breakfast date with one of my favorite men in the Universe … my daddy! Every 1st Saturday of the month, he attends the DAV (Disabled American Veteran’s) breakfast at our local DAV. My dad is not a Veteran but he has a great respect for anyone who has served our Country and has instilled that same respect in his children & grandchildren. You see, I am not his normal DAV breakfast date, that would be Chrisi, but she wasn’t feeling so well this morning so I had the privilage of filling in for her. It’s a great thing to do with your family if you’ve never been. #1. it gives you an opportunity to thank the folks who have given us the ability to live in a democratic society. #2. the food is out of this world & #3. where else could you possibly eat at a breakfast buffet for 5 bucks? #4. all of the money goes to support our local DAV and projects they support. As an added bonus, you often run into someone you haven’t seen in ages. Just this morning I saw an old friend from High School and we had a nice long catchin’ up chat.

After leaving the DAV breakfast, Dad & I went to town for the kickoff of the YMCA 5k & 10k runs. There was a huge crowd … consisting of runners, volunteer’s & sideline cheerleaders. Our County is in the process of building a new YMCA & all donations & proceeds were to help with that project. If you have a YMCA in your area, I’m sure you can appreciate the importance of that. Our local YMCA offers so many programs and opportunities, if you aren’t taking advantage of some of them, you should certainly check it out. They have something for everyone of all ages. You can link to our local YMCA here. By the way … I didn’t run in either race. Yes, I know that is a huge shock, please get up off the floor from your fainting position now. I didn’t see anyone there with a Krispy Kreme doughnut tied to a stick for me to chase, so I assumed the didn’t intend for me to run. Oh well, maybe next time … or probably not! I did, however, have lots of fun taking some pictures prior to the race. I’m not sure who won and if any of you know, please leave us a comment so we can congratulate them. Kudo’s to all of you runners for your effort … I certainly admire you!
