* my birthday girl …

21 years ago today, I wasn’t feeling so good right about now.  In fact, I had just been checked into the hospital.  Excitement was in the air, I think the birds were singing a special song that morning.  Me, well I just wanted an epidural and I wanted it 10 minutes ago.  No one had bothered telling me that labor pains really suck.  In case you didn’t know that tid bit of information … labor pains suck, write that down somewhere, you may need to reference it someday.  After 18 hours of labor and not dilating one centimeter, my first child made her grand entrance into this world via c-section.  9 lbs 21 inches of perfectness.  Unless you count the whole cone shape head thing (her uncle Thad was very concerned about her apparant alien likeness).  I did not realize how instantly I could ever be so in love.  Of course, I had not changed a poopy diaper at that moment either.  I remember bringing her home, in the beautiful blue smock dress that her Nana got her, with her little lacy socks  & tiny shoes.  I looked at her, she looked at me and I instantly thought … what in the crap have you gotten yourself into melinda!  You don’t know what to do with a baby.  You have no clue how to parent a child.  Lord bless this child, if she makes it a week it will be nothing short of a miracle.  Today, 21 years later, she is still a miracle.  A blessing beyond measure.  I still wonder somedays what I’ve gotten myself into.  I still don’t have a clue how to parent and inspite of all of that, she is a great young woman.  So let me be the first to say “happy 21st birthday Christina Joy, I love you so very much”.  I am so proud of you, of who you are and who you will become.

all my love.
