* she inspires me …

Because I promised Chrisi if I blogged about her nastiness last night, I would blog about her genuine good spirit tonight and since I am a mama that keeps my word … you are stuck, once again, reading about one of my children.  Do you think parents ever tire of talking about their kids?  I hope not.

Chrisi is in the second half of her junior year as an Appalachain student.  She attends the Caldwell Campus and is majoring in elementary education.  She is going to be an incredible teacher.  She has a gift for working with children.  Children are naturally drawn to her like magnets.  She did not inherit this from her mother, it must’ve come from her Nana or her Nana’s side of the family.

As part of her course study this sememster, she has to do what’s referred to as a 20/20.  20 hours of community service work at a non profit, non religious affiliated charity & 20 hours volunteer work at an elementary school.  For part of her 20 hours community service work, she has chosen to volunteer at a battered womens shelter and a thrift store called The Purple Ribbon that financially supports the shelter from it’s proceeds.

Yesterday was her first day at the shelter.  She had very mixed emotions about it.  She was happy to help and sad that there was a need for help.  I am extremely proud of her for taking on such a challenging volunteer position.  She could’ve opted for something far more fluffy or easy.  I am inspired by her desire to help those who find themselves in a situation that requires depending on others.  She isn’t leaving her turtle in the road.  I am greatful for the organizations that provide shelters and I hope she may consider continuing to volunteer when her project is over.  I would ask that you keep her in your thoughts and prayers, she may see or experience things that will hurt her tender heart.  Please ask God to guide her words with kindness and understanding, to keep her safe, along with the victims who are seeking help.

I could probably learn a few lessons from her sweet spirit and desire to help others in need.

ps:  The picture above was taken down at the church house, the kids are some of the kids in Chrisi’s Wednesday night Sonshine Kids group.  She is crazy about those kids.

    Chrisi is an amazing young woman. She is wonderful with everyone…but children are her specialty. She will make an awesome teacher.
