I’m not sure if any of you are reading along with me on this study, I really hope some of you are.  I’m finding Z to be a very interesting and challenging book to study.  If you don’t mind, would you just check in from time to time so I know if anyone is reading?  Also, if you have someone you want to share the study with, it’s printable if you just hit print on your computer.  You can catch up on all the weeks if you go to the search bar and type in Zechariah.

Now let’s move along to week 4.  We are going to finish up chapter 1 today, starting in verse 18.  I didn’t teach Sunday School this week because we are on vacation so this will actually put us a week ahead of my class but I hated not to post since Sunday’s are update days here on the blog.

Verses 18 thru 19:  Z see’s his 2nd vision.  He looks up and before him are 4 horns – I take these to be horns of a bull or ram, a strong animal who is recognized and feared for their horns.  Z asked the angels what the horns were.   I really like that Z asks lots of questions, he reminds me of me in that sense, I like to know what’s going on around me at all times.  The angel answers Z, explaing that the horns represent the nations that have scattered Judah, Israel and Jerusalem.  It is widely believed that the 4 horns represent that nations of Babylon, Medo-Persia, Rome & Greece.  Please note, that is theory since we have no specific indication in scripture as to which nations the angel was specifically referring to.

Verses 20 thru 21:  Then the Lord shows Z 4 craftsmen and once again Z asked the angel what they are coming to do.  The angel explains that the 4 craftstmen have come to whoop up on terrify the nations who have raised their horns against the land of Judah and scattered it’s people.   If you go back to Gen. 12:3 and read God clearly says “I will bless those who bless you (speaking to the children of Israel) and I will curse those who curse you”  By sending the 4 craftsmen, God is sending a symbol that he is fixin’ to curse the nations who cursed His chosen people.  God is once again proving that His promises hold true forever.

To sum it up … nations may rise against God’s chosen people.  Time and time again through out scripture, God’s chosen people head down the wrong path and are punished or caputred.  But, when they repent and turn to God, He returns to them and punishes those who raise up against them.

Not nearly as much to grasp this week, but ever so important to remember that God keeps His promises.

Question:   Do you believe God’s promises hold true even today?

Next week, we will start on chapter 2.  Not sure how long it will take us to get through it but I am finding studying to be very spiritually uplifting for me.  The only way to learn the bible is to study the bible.

me.
