* just call me scrooge …

Ok, by now, y’all know I am a weirdo in many areas.  I have no problem admitting that.  I’m good with it.  What I’m not good with is  … people who decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving.  If you fall in to this category, I’m sorry if I just offended you.  Ok, really I’m not, but I am practicing being polite and it seemed like a good opportunity to try it out.  So much for that.

I simply have a few questions that bug the crap outta me plague me concerning the pre Holiday decorating thing:

#1. is an entire month or so just not enough for you to be all holiday-ee?

#2. do you just have a room you put all that stuff in and whoop it out at the first glimpse of a turkey on sale?

#3. do you hate Thanksgiving? i mean why can’t Thanksgiving have a day of it’s own without being taken over by Christmas?

#4. did the dollar store have a huge sale and you just couldn’t help yourself, you got home and had no where to put all the stuff you purchased so you went ahead and put it out?

#5. don’t you have somewhere to be? something really important to do?

Someone help me here!  I really really dislike it.  It makes me want to stop at your house and undecorate.   It should just be a rule that you cannot under any circumstances put up Christmas decorations until the day after Thanksgiving.

AND … it should also be a rule that you have to take your decorations down the day after New Years.  Not in June.

Please stay tuned for my input on blow up decorations … I have a rule about that too.

me (scrooge).

putting up the christmas tree takes forever. not the real kind, but the fake.
    don’t judge me.
    anywhooo…
last year, because i knew i would be away at an advent retreat, i put my tree up two weeks before thanksgiving.
    don’t faint.
i bought all kinds of things harvesty, and made a blessing tree.
the kids from my youth group and my kid’s friends home from college made paper ornaments and described what they were thankful for. it was so amazing, we left it up for christmas, too.
we have a tendency to decorate for christmas in november when it’s less hectic (we’re in retail) but we don’t plug in until sunday after thanksgiving.
there are reasons why people jump the gun. it’s not that we don’t like thanksgiving. i love thanksgiving. i celebrate thanksgiving every day. but i’m also super duper into the christmas spirit. in fact i’ve been listening the christmas music for days. . .
    fa la la la la…

hi Kimberly. I love love love the idea of the blessing tree. See, now that I can understand. I too have been listening to Christmas music for weeks, cause some of the girls I work with are playing it. I know I’m a scrooge. I can’t help it. I was born that way. I am now singing Fra ra ra ra ra from the Christmas Story movie. thanks.

oh and did i mention that i have the 25 days of ELF?? it’s a slight exaggeration, but i could seriously watch that movie every day from dec 1 to the 25th.

The Christmas music on the radios before thanksgiving drive me crazy. Why can’t we just celebrate one holiday at a time.

  6. Courtney

I love, love, love Christmas! That being said, I don’t like to celebrate it until after Thanksgiving. I always feel sorry for Thanksgiving because it’s like the ugly stepchild, everyone always skips right over it…
I refuse to listen to Christmas music on the radio until I have celebrated at least one of my two Thanksgivings. Our Christmas tree and other festive decorations do not come out of the attic until Thanksgiving is over.
Though I must admit, we’re putting up our Christmas tree at school sometime this week, but that is merely because we go home for Thanksgiving on November 24th and then we have a week of exams. If we’re going to celebrate at school at all it must come squished in with Thanksgiving. I don’t like it, but it is a necessary evil.

I agree with you, Melinda! That pic you posted with this entry….well….that is just way too much overboard. I would really hate to see the power bill, let alone all the FIRE hazzards!!!

  8. Anita

You know I didnt think about it until you posted this, but as i was on my way throught the back streets of town yesterday, you are right, I can not belive the Christmas lights and decorations that are up already…

Well Melinda around here at Fess Little Rd our Christmas decorations have to go up before Thanksgiving because somebody (being Douglas) has to go hunting all week so he has to get everything up before he leaves. You know those Bowmans love their Christmas lights. Normally Douglas gets everything up before he leaves and my good ole neighbor Robert comes up and turns everything on Thanksgiving day. This year Douglas didn’t get all of his chores done and Robert decided he needs to be a hunter too so what we do have up is already on. Sorry!!!! just don’t drive down Rink Dam Rd so you won’t see mine glowing from the grill.

ok, i understand with the amount of christmas lights going on at the bowmans house … they have to go up early, but at least they aren’t turned on prior to thanksgiving. and after reading that entire comment all I can picture in my sweet little head is Robert and Douglas in the woods with guns. bless. robert is one of my favorite people in the entire universe, we’ve been friends for a long long time.

I just come back to read your post and noticed that my little character thing up there has horns and smoke boiling out of its ears. Whats up with that? I didn’t do that so that only means one thing………well, i’m not really sure what that means. lol

    • melinda

well that is funny. i had not even noticed the horns and smoke. the avatars (monster dudes) are randomly assigned when somebody leaves a comment unless that person makes their own. at least it has a smiley face? i’ll try to fix it if you’re not loving the little horned smoke blowing monster dude.

hey Melinda we have something in common! Robert is one of my favorite people in the universe too! Bless him he decided to go hunting this time so he could take my dear son! Wasnt that sweet of him! I do love him!
