* Emma Joy’s 1st snow …
I worked today … all day! Yay for me. I feel human. Well, right now, I feel tired, but I had a good productive day and it felt good to be out of the house, to enjoy getting my desk back in some simblance of order, just in time to do it all over again next week. I went in this morning not sure if I would stay all day or not, but as the day went on, I did fine, so I stayed till closing time.
And then … it went downhill from there. Like an avalanche! We state employees have not gotten paid since Dec. 21st. January makes for a long month around the ole hacienda. Our cubbards were bare to the bone. Of all days it decides to snow. Go figure. It’s no secret how much I dislike grocery shopping on a regular day … well mulitply that by about a gazillion and you’ll know almost how much I dislike it on a southern snow day. I have no idea why we in the south have some weird compulsion to go buy bread and milk when it snows but we do. It’s a genetic, inbred southern thing. I don’t know what you yankee folk do all winter long. How do you survive? I think everybody and at least one family member were at Walmart this evening between 5 and 6 pm. There wasn’t a loaf of bread to be had within 25 miles of the city limits. I bought 2 half gallons of milk because there wasn’t one whole gallon left. There were no 2 liter sundrops, we now have 2 twelve packs of 16 oz sundrops … one for me, one for Richard. Anybody else that happens to show up at my house is just out of luck. I may share my milk but you are not getting any of my limited supply of sundrop. Hey, a girls gotta have her limits of hospitality and mine stop at the sundrop. I can cook you some livermush if you want me to but I ain’t sharing the good stuff. Needless to say, we are now fully stocked with the necessities to wait out the blizzard … we have an abundant supply of little debbie cakes, some fruity pebbles and tostito chips, we’re good to go.
The evening started looking much better when I got home to find these in my inbox … Emma Joy’s first snow!
Gettin’ ready to head outside for her first snow … check out those uggs!
Not so sure about this cold stuff yet …
maybe it’s ok?
Whoo hoo hold on Mandy, this is more like it!
Now she’s got the hang of it … all smiles! I really hate I wasn’t there to enjoy seeing her play in her first snow.
Richard is already getting antsy being stuck in the house. He dislikes being snowed in. Me, not so much. It’s just a good excuse to wear my pj’s all day, read, blog, sew and not leave the house for any reason at all. I mean, cause I would never do any of that on a regular Saturday … I’d be up early raking carpet or something really productive like that. Oh what a lie, I cannot even type that with a straight face, I tried, couldn’t do it.
What are your plans for the snowed in weekend? Sledding? Snow cream? Snuggling on the sofa? Share!
me.

I’m sorry you had to grocery shop (ever, but especially in the nonsense today). I’m glad you were able to find some Sundrop – even if it was in the 20 oz. bottles.
Emma Joy in the snow is just too stinkin cute! I’m glad she ended up enjoying it.
courtney … you should hear Emma Joy say that … she says “I so stinkin’ cute” and then I have her say “I so stinkin’ spoiled” she laughs and laughs at herself! bless, i love that child!
For the record this yankee survived the first 18 yrs of her life near Chicago. I remember 1969 when we had a blizzard. It took my dad all day to shovel out the driveway so he could get to work the next day. Up North (Gary, IN to be exact), we had plenty of snow plows. I don’t remember being out of school but maybe that one day. We walked, yes I said walked to the Catholic school every day. NO, not up hill but on the city sidewalk that was provided for all of us. We would walk the 5 city blocks to school, back home for lunch, back to school and then back home again. Since we normally had 6 at the school most of the time, (it was a k-8) we never got a ride. That was our physical activity every day. We built forts, had snowball fights, made snow angels, and HAD to shovel that public sidewalk behind our house. I remember hats, gloves, mittens and scarfs being all over the house. I remember flooded fields that would freeze so that anyone could go ice skating. The snow never stopped us for long. My poor mother would have at least 6 if not 9 of the kids romping in the house. This is God’s way to say, “Slow down your life and enjoy your family and the simpilier times you used to have”.
Emma Joy is adorable!
Looking forward to sledding down Valley Rd.
And afterwards we can have hot chocolate at my house.

Emma Joy is a cutie!! Ha I send Jerry to the store yesterday while I was working..that was a beautifully thought out plan I do think ;0)
This weekend I am going to crochet. It is a new thing I am trying to learn much like your sewing escapades. Maybe I will send you a scarf..it might be wide enough to wrap around your head, but hey it is warm. Have a spectacular Sundrop filled weekend!!
Corrie, I would love love love a scarf! get busy. Jodie, no thank you to the below zero weather but I would love to visit in the spring or fall! Margie, what time is hot chocolate & are you picking me up cause mini is not going out to play in the snow/sleet. Courtney, did it snow at school? Richard and I are enjoying a late breakfast and then I’m heading to the sewing machine … laundry is going and soup is in the crock pot for dinner.
you are welcome here ANYTIME!!!!!
Melinda – you just keep sewing and blogging. I am in my pjs wanting to read but being interrrupted by the army of ants parading in my house. Emma Joy is definitely stinkin cute and I can see why these pics made your day. Enjoyed the stories sent in by your friend. Enjoyed most your journal of Southern snow times and the value of sundrop – guard it girl!
Yes, it snowed here. We got maybe 2-3 inches and then it has been sleeting since at least 9 (when I woke up) – I’ve not measured the accumulation of sleet/snow/ice today. It’s not really the type to play in since there is a nice thick layer of sleet and ice on top – blah! We’re walking to the basketball game across campus, then I need to do homework, and then a bunch of us girls are planning on watching the Miss America pageant tonight.
Have fun sewing and blogging!
she is so stinkin’ cute.
and i’m diggin’ those baby uggs!
