* me and the punkin’ …

Posted on February 16th, 2010 by melinda in Another day in the life of me.

What was your first car?  Did you drive a not so cool kid car like me back in the day?  We’re you kickin’ it in a pick up truck?  Maybe mom’s wagon with the wood panel sides?  or your great uncles car that was the approximate size the USS Yorktown?

My first car …

mmhhmm … an organge Ford Pinto.  How jealous are you?  We affectionatley called it the punkin.  Oh the fun we had in the punkin!  It even had a sunroof and an 8 track tape player(which my children once mistook for a vcr in the dashboard of an old truck).  It was a pretty pimped out ride … or not!

Your turn … do tell, what was your first car?

me.

Ok, not to be left out, I got mine in 1976 and it was a Fire Engine Red 1965….(don’t laugh) Chevy Impala 4 door with a rust hole in the side (due to all the salt and slag the north puts out in the winter) I called her the Red Bomb. No heat, No air, but ran until 1981 when the underneath literally fell off the frame and was dragging on the ground. God must have been looking out for me as I had just gotten off I-40 in Knoxville. I had just come back from a visit with my now ex and had been going at least 70. When I went up the hill to the apt, I felt something hit the ground and the car would not go anywhere. Rust had gotten the best of that car. I used her as a jeep though and had a blast all through college.

Guess what it was a Ford Pinto 1972 and it was orange and white but no sunroof! Loved that car! It had some speed to it! Good ole car and I miss those things!
