* time is of the essence & yummy recipes …

I am finally home from retrieving mini from her evil captors in the big city.  Someone please remind me that the next time we buy a car (many many years from now) not to buy one from a dealership far away from home.

Moving along to bigger and brighter things.  First of all, Praise the Lord for such a beautiful day!

Proverbs 25:11 says … a word fitly spoken is like apples of gold  in pictures of silver.

Second of all, tomorrow is our second week of our church house ladies bible study (aptly titled apples of gold).  I’m working on finishing up my lesson.  I am looking forward to going.  I will be completely honest and confess that I had some serious reservations about committing 3 hours of my Saturday for 6 weeks.  Call me selfish, but when one works 40 hours a week, typically has at least one scheduled meeting some time during the week, church on Wednesday nights and twice on Sunday …. I tend to become extremely selfish with my me time.  I will admit, I hesitated before deciding to join.  I just wasn’t sure I wanted to obligate myself.  And then something occurred to me … I was being really selfish.  I’m pretty sure God doesn’t just show up in my life when He can fit me in to his busy schedule.  Sometimes, we are required to make, what at the time, seem like sacrifices.  I don’t know about y’all, but I find myself far to often getting caught up in the me me me attitude instead of the what would God want me to do attitude.  I don’t mean to sound condescending, I think it’s completely natural to be self absorbed, we’re human and we aren’t perfect.  However, as Christians, it is our duty to strive to become selfless, for our lives to be about the business of God, not me.  Is it an overnight thing?  um, no.  Will it ever completely happen, mmm, probably not.  Does that mean we shouldn’t put forth our best effort? nope, it doesn’t.  After my little self realization about how I ought to disburse my time, I decided to join the bible study.  I am so glad I did.  Last week was about kindness … this week, how to be a better wife by loving my husband more.

Are you kidding me?  I have to be kind and loving to my husband … all at the same time?  This may take some effort on my part.  I’m playing … it’s actually a good plan, one I’ve been working on for a while.  Let’s just say, I’m a work in progress.  A very long drawn out progressive process.  Cut me some slack, I’m working on it.  Like right now, when he’s smacking the back of my lap top, I do not plan to punch him in the nose.  See, I’m making progress.  Actually, I really enjoy being a wife and mother.  There are area’s in which I need improvement (please see: is clean underwear really necessary) but for the most part, I think he would tell you I do ‘aight.

This lesson we’re doing makes you search all around in the bible for biblicly sound truths to go with the teaching.  I have learned  2 things about the bible tonight that I wasn’t aware of before:  #1.  I am pretty sure the entire book of Song of Songs is better than any Harlequin Romance  will ever be #2.  the bible is chocked full of good advice on how to be a good/better wife.   I knew the basics, like I ought to resemble a ruby and all … but seriously, there is some good, logical, everyday, useful stuff in there.  You should check it out.

I think my husband will be eternally grateful for tomorrow’s lesson.  I was inspired just answering the questions myself, I am anxious to see what the other ladies thoughts are.  I wonder if any of them shaved their legs or threw in a load of laundry tonight just for the heck of it?  I did.

ps:  Bible study also includes some really good food.  Last week the theme was brunch.  Donna, her mom and daughter, Sarah, did a great job with the food.  It was delicious.  I thought I would be kind (see, I listened) and share the recipes with you.  Just click here for them.  I highly recommend the quiche.  It was my favorite.

me.
