* a personal thank you …

Posted on November 11th, 2010 by melinda in Another day in the life of me.

I’m not sure if I think the phrase “happy veterans day” is really appropriate.  I don’t really think of happy correlating with men and women protecting the freedoms I so very much enjoy.  Maybe admire a veteran day or thank a veteran day would be more logical from my perspective.

From a purely civilian point of view, I want to say how truly appreciative I am.  I think about the freedoms I enjoy the most … like my right to worship publicly without any fear of retribution or my right to vote or my right to write this blog and freely express my own voice.  The list could go on and on, it could be endless.  I am grateful for any person who is willing to put their own life and safety second to protecting me and mine.  I admire you and I thank you … today and every day.

Click on over to the post from last year to see a few of my personal favorite veterans … they are a few of my very most favorite people in the universe and I am proud to know them!

    As I have already told you in person, we share the same sentiments on this. For soldiers and families who, throughout their lives, carry the carnage of war, Veteran’s Day cannot be described as a “happy” occasion. It can and should be a solemn remembrance of sacrifices, and the character of those willing to make them. When any American dons a uniform and makes a conscious decision to “stand in the gap” in order to protect our freedom and defend our safety, we owe a deep debt of gratitude for the willingness of that individual to make the supreme sacrifice. I wish there was something I could personally do to improve the quality of life of each Disabled American Veteran. Thank you Melinda for providing a platform for our thoughts.
